Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Top of the mornin' to you!

What a great St.Patrick's Day we had in first grade. We celebrated with leprechaun stories and discussions about how the children would catch these sneaky fellows. The children wrote stories explaining why they were the luckiest kids in the world (pictures to come in the next post). You will be very impressed with their responses because they were quite thoughtful. Before our day was over we couldn't pass up the opportunity for a tasty leprechaun snack. One bite into these yummy treats revealed a rainbow of colours that put smiles on every face.

Here is a quick peek into our new unit of study in Science (focus: Materials). The children were given a box full of different objects and their task was to sort them onto labeled sheets according to what material they were made out of (metals, plastics, wood, fabrics, natural). After their task was completed, we then discussed each one and gave reasons for our choices.

This week, our theme is centered around 'Pirates'. We are studying mapping within our Social Studies unit and what better way to discover maps than through the eyes of a pirate. Argh...argh.... So we will be pullin' up our bootstraps and setting sail for new adventures in learning.
Yo Ho Ho and away we go....

What's a pirate's favourite food?
